Stephen Woodhams Design - Projects - Show Garden
Chelsea Flower Show, 1994

RHS Chelsea Flower Show Chelsea - Gold Medal WinnersMr Maidment’s garden was my first show garden, exhibited in 1994 at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. The idea was to bring the derelict greenhouse, sitting in the old walled garden, from a country estate in Dorset and to re-create part of the garden around it. Mr Maidment was the old Head Gardener of the estate.

The concept broke the mould for a show garden at Chelsea. I believe it could not be assessed in the usual way as it did not fit within the criteria. Nevertheless, when judged it was awarded a Gold Medal, and at this time I was the youngest person to have been awarded a Gold Medal for a garden at Chelsea. We were sponsored by You Magazine and Yardly.
