garden design - standard services

At Stephen Woodhams Garden Design we offer a wide range of services. The design consultancy can include all or part of the following elements:

  • Site analysis and the development of a design concept

  • Presentation of illustrations of the proposed design with mood boards, normally including 3D renders of selected views of the garden

  • Lighting plan (presented once the concept design is approved)

  • Construction drawings

  • Planting plans

  • Full specifications and tender package

  • Project Management once works are underway

On larger projects we are normally working as part of a team, alongside architects, interior designers, M&E consultants, lighting designers and sometimes others.

After the project has been completed we can assist with ongoing consultancy to ensure the garden is maintained well and matures as expected.

LIGHTING

Lighting of a garden or any outside space is crucial, not only of benefit when in the garden at night but also for nighttime views of the garden from within the house. That said, more often than not we take the ‘less is more’ approach as we feel that these spaces should look like they are bathed in moonlight or candle light. An over-lit garden is as bad as one which is not lit at all.

We are happy to provide a design for simple lighting schemes but generally we prefer to work with a lighting consultant who can make the most suitable selections from the incredible range not only of fittings but also all the necessary drivers, transformers, junctions and switching systems. Many of our gardens have been lit by our friends at DesignPlusLight

irrigation

Although we try to avoid thirsty planting schemes particularly in the Mediterranean and other arid zones but also here in the UK, irrigation is often necessary at least during the first two or three years of plant establishment. Generally we can design these systems alongside the Landscape Contractor, but for more complex systems which involve water harvesting and/or recycling we would normally take the advice of a specialist consultant. They are more likely to be up to date with the latest technologies and products available.

GARDEN MAINTENANCE

Many of our clients ask us to be involved in the aftercare and ongoing maintenance of their gardens, and we love to keep our involvement going and so to be able to watch the gardens develop and mature with time.

Through ongoing maintenance we are able to monitor the condition of our gardens and plants, we can identify work that needs doing or improvements that could be made much more quickly, and so provide an improved service for our clients.
